Manassas, VA event: 29 September 1997 M=2.5

The (Richter) magnitude 2.5 earthquake occurred at 1:45:08.3 PM EDT in Manassas, VA. The location, based on the three nearest stations, is 38.81°N latitude, 77.45°W longitude and 2.5 km depth. Although it was felt -- and heard -- by several people. There were no reported injuries or damage. The magnitude estimate is from the NEIC.

Although there is no record of earthquakes in Manassas, such events are not unusual in the Piedmont in the east.
